Estrangement from family and friends who do not accept that people can identify into another sex appears to be common. According to the PITT (Parents With Inconvenient Truths about Trans) community (they’re on Substack and their stories of family devastation are very, very moving), these online trans communities encourage estrangement from parents who display anything other than absolute acceptance. I believe these online communities are to blame for this unfortunate girl’s death almost as much as the State agencies and NGOs who appear to have failed her. Responsibility is not a zero sum game.

It's good that the person described in the article as her psychiatrist recognized that her pretending to be a boy was part of the same struggle as her need to starve herself into a pre-adolescent body and advised her parents not to affirm her delusional gender identity. I'm not sure whether that was the eating disorder clinic's psychiatrist or CAMS psychiatrist, but either way, I take it as a hopeful sign that their is still some sanity being practiced.
Treating eating disorders is very very difficult (especially now that family systems therapy, the only really effective treatment for adolescents, has largely been abandoned), and a good proportion of women and girls with eating disorders do end up dead (usually by suicide). It is one of the most lethal mental illnesses. That society has imposed the requirement that we all genuflect to gender woo woo and treat delusional gender identities as a sacred cow that cannot be challenged can only make this even more difficult and likely to end in tragedy.
I have to take exception to your claim that women and girls with eating disorders are deliberately starving themselves to death though, because that is simply not what the unconscious intention is (at least most of the time). The intention is to starve themselves into a pre-adolescent body, and for the same reason that ROGD girls pretend to be boys, because they simply can't cope with the demands and difficulties of being a woman in our stressful, complicated, deeply misogynistic society. All the professionals around her seemed to be actively working to prevent her getting the help she so desperately needed. And her parents should have been given support to keep her at home if at all possible. How the hell can it be considered a solution that a 16 year old with a very serious mental illness lives alone in a motel? It should have been obvious that it would end badly. Despite not being a frequent flyer to Red Radio, I clicked the original link. There was so much going on in this poor child's life, from 5 years old. But the system is a faceless and unaccountable robot, and it was everyone else's job. No doubt in my mind that it was one betrayal after another, public service silos, and denial of clinical reality with no real meaningful consequences and the family left picking up the broken pieces.
